Metabolic Health Expert Marc Bates Releases YouTube Video Challenging Muscle Loss After 65
Marc Bates, MPH, has released a new YouTube video that directly challenges the widespread belief that muscle loss after age 65 is an inevitable part of aging. The metabolic health expert presents compelling evidence that what society labels as "normal aging" is actually a preventable and reversible metabolic condition.
The video addresses anabolic resistance, a condition where muscles become less responsive to protein signals that would easily trigger muscle growth in younger individuals. Bates explains that this mechanism begins as early as the late 40s in people with poor metabolic health, not at a predetermined age.
"What we label as 'normal aging' is often the result of chronic undernourishment, sedentary behavior, and metabolic dysfunction," Bates states in the video. "It's not normal. It's common. And that's a massive difference."
The expert cites research from Dr. Donald Layman and NHANES data showing that over 40% of Americans, particularly women over 60, fail to meet minimum protein intake requirements. Bates emphasizes that older adults need 30-40 grams of protein with 2.5-3 grams of leucine per meal to overcome anabolic resistance.
The video outlines five evidence-based interventions for reversing muscle loss: optimized protein intake, resistance training, elimination of inflammatory foods, time-restricted eating, and targeted supplementation. These strategies focus on improving metabolic health rather than accepting chronological age as destiny.
"Once people see that muscle loss is not destiny, but a signal of insufficient nutrition and missed opportunity, they can take ownership," Bates explains. "That's when the healing starts."
