Metabolic Health Expert Marc Bates Releases New Video Debunking Calorie Counting Myths

By Marc Bates

Marc Bates, MPH, has released part 7 of his interview series with Rob Bateman (@no_timetocook) on YouTube, directly challenging the widely accepted "calories in, calories out" weight loss model through biochemical evidence.

The latest video examines why traditional calorie counting fails by exploring how different macronutrients trigger distinct metabolic pathways in the human body. Bates argues that viewing the body as a simple calorie-burning machine contradicts fundamental biochemical reality.

"CICO doesn't work," Bates states in the interview. "You just need to explain that humans are not closed systems and we don't burn the food."

The discussion reveals that when someone consumes bread versus salmon with similar caloric values, entirely different metabolic processes occur at the cellular level. According to Bates, "Different hormones and enzymes break the food into constituent parts that get absorbed as part of digestion."

This biochemical approach challenges decades of conventional weight loss wisdom by demonstrating that food quality and composition matter more than calorie quantity. The video emphasizes how hormonal responses, particularly insulin regulation, determine whether the body stores or burns fat regardless of caloric intake.

The interview series with Bateman continues to examine evidence-based approaches to metabolic health and sustainable weight management through scientific analysis rather than traditional dietary restrictions.
